Above the orange-tree gardens of Santa Chiara, each of the eight rooms at Artemisia Domus is named after the female protagonists of Neapolitan painter Artemisia Gentileschi (Cleopatra has distressed Egyptian gold walls).

But the defining presence is the owner’s mother, Isabella Amato, whose own paintings line the walls and whose homemade cake is served for breakfast on gilded plates.
