What to see in Naples

There are so many things to see in Naples and most of them are enclosed within its beautiful old historic center, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Thanks to its privileged position in the heart of Naples all the main attractions of the city are conveniently reachable on foot from Artemisia Domus with pleasant walks.

SHOPPING

In order to take in the authentic atmosphere of Naples a walk through the ancient workshops of artisans such as those of San Gregorio Armeno or a visit to the famous Doll Hospital where since the 1800s they’ve been repairing and restoring dolls is an absolute must. In the nearby via Toledo, the main shopping street of Naples, it will be possible to do some shopping ranging from the big names to local Neapolitan craftsmanship.
To conclude a pleasant day dedicated to shopping there is nothing better than a stop at the historic Gay-Odin, where you’ll be able to enjoy the delights of the ancient Neapolitan chocolatier.

Archaeological Museum

NATIONAL ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM OF NAPLES

The Archaeological Museum is one of the most important museums in Naples, and holds within it the richest collection of archaeological discoveries in Italy. The Egyptian collection of the Archaeological Museum of Naples is the third largest in the world after the Egyptian museum in Cairo and Turin.

Toledo Station

METRO TOLEDO STATION

The Toledo station is a station of the Naples metro line 1 designed by the Spanish architect Óscar Tusquets. Inside, it’s the proud home of works by the likes of Bob Wilson and William Kentridge. According to the English newspaper The Daily Telegraph and the CNN ranking, it is the most beautiful metro station in Europe.

Maschio Angioino

The port of Naples is one of the most important ports in Europe. Every year millions of tourists board the Molo Beverello and other embarkation points in order to visit the nearby islands and the coast. Comfortable and fast ferries or hydrofoils will take you to paradises like Ischia, Capri and Procida. Imposing on the port stands the Maschio Angioino (Castel Nuovo), the historic castle known as one of the many symbols of the city.

Palazzo Gravina

PALAZZO GRAVINA

Palazzo Orsini of Gravina, known as Palazzo Gravina, is probably one of the highest examples of Renaissance architecture in Naples. The construction of the palace was entrusted to the well-known Neapolitan architect Gabriele d'Agnolo, who designed the elegant and impressive façade characterized by pillow-shaped architectural knobs. Today the building is home to the Faculty of Architecture of the Federico II University.

Piazza del Gesù

PIAZZA DEL GESÙ

Symbol of the historic center of Naples, Piazza del Gesù Nuovo houses the monumental obelisk of the Immaculate, a majestic spire of white marble located in the center of the square. The name of the square comes from the church of the same name on whose façade you can find the UNESCO plaque engraved with the reasons that led to the declaration of the historic center of Naples as a world heritage site.

The Church of Gesù nuovo

Chiostro di Santa Chiara

The Cloister of Santa Chiara is a monumental cloister belonging to the monastic complex of Santa Chiara, a true oasis of peace in the center of Naples.
This complex of rare beauty includes the famous majolica-filled cloister (or of the Clarisse), built in 1739 by Domenico Antonio Vaccaro, excellent Baroque testimony of the Basilica.
